Designer & Architect Pricing

Here is a quick tip for those involved in larger renovation projects that involve architects, engineers and city permits...oh and of course general contractors. I have found too many (myself included) clients of architectural technologists get very excited about the low pricing involved in getting an initial sketch or floor plan. Often this pricing is by the hour and seems like pennies. The common outcome is hiring this professional to bring the drawings to the working stage and approved permit stage at a cost that by the hour can haunt and surprise you I am a big supporter of those that use a highly regarded architect or arch tech. Secondly, get their scope of work spec'd out in writing with a flat rate. Don't forget to include some changes in the scope and remedying of deficiencies once in the permit process.
