Non-Resident Speculation Tax - Real Estate in Greater Golden Horseshoe 2017

What is the Greater Golden Horseshoe?

The GGH includes the following geographic areas: Brant, Dufferin, Durham, Haldimand, Halton, Hamilton, Kawartha Lakes, Niagara, Northumberland, Peel, Peterborough, Simcoe, Toronto, Waterloo, Wellington and York.  Refer to the map at the end of the document.

The GGH will impose a 15% tax on those non-resident buyers - on any (1-6 units) deals that were not binding today or earlier.

Do we follow Vancouver?
If you review the stats from Vancouver, you will see that prices have dropped in detached metro homes since the Peak in August 2016. Also, the number of units sold has also dropped by more that 50% when comparing February 2017 sales to August 2016 sales.
