As you may have heard the federal government has tabled a new budget. Included in its plans to get the economy going are up to $1500 in tax credits available to those completing home renovations by February 2010. The size of the project can be between $1,000 and $10,000.
My approach to this credit would be to take your larger renovation and piece out a portion to qualify for the credit. Things like flooring or landscaping might be something to consider as the "project" that will be put toward the credit. Here is a link detailing the credit:

Another item that is not new, but can save money for your reno is the Energy Audit from the government of Ontario. If you are replacing any of the following : insulation, windows, doors, furnace or a water heater, it would be worth booking an inspection before you start the work. Here is the link:
